Banyan ICA Installation Guide
The Banyan ICA Installation Guide describes how to install the Banyan family of Intelligent Communications Adapter (ICA) cards in Banyan servers. This guide describes the procedures for installing and configuring the following ICA cards:
Intelligent Communications Adapter with Reduced Memory (ICA/RM) card (Obsolete) Intelligent Communications Adapter with High Speed (ICA/HS) card Intelligent Communication Adapter cards for Micro Channel bus (ICAmC) card (Obsolete)
The ICA/RM and ICA/HS cards are half-sized, 16-bit ISA serial communications card that can run at speeds up to 384 Kbps, while using only 16 KB of memory. The ICA/RM and ICA/HS cards can be installed in these platforms:
Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus PC Extended Industry Architecture (EISA) bus PC
The ICAmC card can be installed in a Micro Channel computer.
The ICA/RM card replaces both the basic ICA card and the ICAplus card and can operate as either of these cards.
The ICA/HS provides increased processing power to accommodate up to 50 percent more higher speed lines. See Managing Communications for details on assigning line speeds.
Before you begin installing the ICA card in the server, review Managing Communications to plan for equipment and resources. After you install the ICA card, see the documentation for the communications options you plan to install and Managing Communications for information on setting up communications options at the server.
When you begin installing the ICA card in the server, see the one of the following chapters:
Chapter 2 - "Installing ICA/RM Cards" (Obsolete) Chapter 3 - "Installing ICA/HS Cards" Chapter 4 - "Installing ICAmC Cards" (Obsolete)
If you encounter problems with an ICA card, see Chapter 5. That chapter provides instructions on how to verify that a card is working, how to verify that a line is active, and how to run the diagnostic test programs provided with your ICA card.
While using this guide, you might need information that is provided in other Banyan documents. Some of these documents include:
VINES Server Installation Guide - Provides complete instructions on installing Banyan server software. This guide provides the Server Configuration Worksheets that you can copy and use to note down ICA card configuration information.
Managing Communications - Describes the operation and management of networks and provides detailed information about installing and managing serial communications options and lines in a network environment.
Monitoring and Optimizing Servers - Provides descriptions of the statistics and other information that VINES Network and Systems Management (VNSM) displays and provides information on how to optimize the network through a VINES server.
For more information on your ICA card, see the installation guide that accompanied the card.
